Debbie Bond and the Kokomo Blues Band

Formed in 1981 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Kokomo Blues Band performed throughout the Southeast for over 20 years. In 1982, we hooked up with the legendary Delta Bluesman, Johnny Shines and backed him for the last 10 years of his life. The Kokomo Blues Band played with Johnny on his last performance at the Chukker, the place where, as a band, we started our musical journey. The Chukker was our home bar in Tuscaloosa.

We worked with Johnny Shines and several other blues musicians from Alabama, including Jerry “Boogie” McCain, and Willie King. We formed the Alabama Blues Project and took Little Whitt and Big Bo McGee to Europe for a 50 gig tour lasting two and half months. Our intention was to to help promote Alabama as a state with a lot of undiscovered blues talent. We did our best to shine a light on that talent and tell others about it.

We recently discovered some old tapes of the Kokomo Blues Band playing in a club in Montgomery, Alabama called Cat Daddy’s. We will be releasing it October 5th at the Chukker Reunion and it is now available on this site here. This is a work in progress and hope you will bookmark the site and stay tuned as we add more information.
